Catherine, Henrietta and Mary Anne were the daughters of Henry Banks and Catherine McKelvie. Henry was born in Bradford, Devon, England and Catherine, who arrived in Geelong in 1850, was from Castle Coole, Garvary, Ireland. Henry and Catherine were married in 1851 at St Francis Church, Melbourne.
Seven known children were born to Catherine and Henry. Mary Anne was two when she died and, within a decade, three year old Catherine and Henrietta aged seventeen months were also laid to rest at the Hopetoun Catholic graveyard.
Mary Emma married William Blandy in 1880 at Gisborne and Catherine Elizabeth married at Violet town in 1894. Catherine’s eldest daughter was accidentally shot at Blackwood at the age of seventeen. The one known son, John Patrick Banks died at Caulfield in 1928.
