John McCormack was born in Tipperary.  He married Ellen Bowe on 7^th September, 1873 at St Bernard’s, Bacchus Marsh.  Ellen was the fifth child of Thomas Bowe and Bridget Byrne.  John and Ellen had seven children.  Their daughter, Ellen Hjorth, is also buried at Hopetoun Cemetery.  Ellen is remembered on the Pioneer Women’s Memorial.  Her father, Thomas, is the man known locally as a person who lived in three centuries.
