Lucy Martin nee Ellis was born in Newry, Co Down, Ireland. She married Richard Martin from London in 1851. Wal Stewart in his book, ‘The Early History of Bacchus Marsh Schools’ noted that Richard Martin was on the list of subscribers to the Iron School in Bacchus Marsh. Lucy and Richard had nine children, three of whom, Sarah, Annie and Francis, pre-deceased their mother.
