Mary Anne Hurst 1828-1855
George Hurst 1855-1855
Again a tragedy – a mother and her newborn son lost their lives within eighteen days of each other. Mary Ann’s husband was George Hurst and baby George’s parents were given as George Hurst and Mary Ann McQueedy. This marriage has not been located.
It seems George married a second time. This marriage was to Mary Ann Ahern in 1858. She was born in Co Cork and was the daughter of James Ahern and Margaret Duggan. George and Mary had eight children.
George was born in Leicester, England and arrived in Australia as a convict on the ‘Earl Grey’ in 1838. He had been convicted on 16.10.1837 for larceny and sentenced to seven years transportation. His ticket of leave was granted on 24.07.1843.
