Michael Costello and Margaret Shanahan were married at Mt Blackwood in 1860.
Michael was the son of James Costello and Mary Ryan and Margaret was the daughter of Michael Shanahan and Catherine Maher. Michael and Margaret had ten known children. Two of those children, Mary, who died at five years of age and John who died at age 41 about six months before his mother, are buried at Hopetoun Cemetery with their parents. Edward (Edwin) Costello was awarded a Christian Doctrine prize in 1890 – the first year of St Bernard’s school.
