Patrick McCluskey 1806-1884
Margaret McCluskey 1802-1881
Patrick was born in Ireland to Peter McCluskey and Margaret McKay. He married Margaret McNeil, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret McNeil. She was born in Antrim, Northern Ireland. Patrick and Margaret had twelve children. The family was prominent in the Myrniong and Greendale communities. In the 1870’s, eldest son, Peter, was assisting with fund-raising functions for the Pentland Hills School. The Bacchus Marsh ‘Express’ of 19.11.1881 carried the following: ‘Mrs M McCluskey, wife of Mr Patrick M McCluskey, farmer, Blackwood Road, died last Tuesday at the advanced age of 76 years. The deceased had been an invalid for some years. Her remains were interred in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bacchus Marsh, on Thursday.’ An impressive tombstone marks the grave of Patrick and Margaret. Buried with them is Margaret’s brother, Bernard McNeill. The spelling of Bernard’s surname on the tombstone could be considered creative.
