Ellen and the un-named baby were the children of John Bell Wilson and Julia Shea. John was born at Ararat in 1859 to James Wilson and Robina Bell. Julia Wilson was the daughter of Stephen Shea and Catherine Corbett. Julia and John married in 1878 at St Mary’s Star of the Sea, West Melbourne. Four children were born, including the un-named baby who lived only one day and Julia’s last child who lived for nine weeks and died the same year as her mother. Two years after his wife’s death, a news article referred to John’s insolvency. Again he featured in a newspaper article as a WA prospector who had a pocketbook containing 40 sovereigns and a draft for 100 pounds stolen at a racecourse in Melbourne. John married again in WA. He and his second wife, Margaret Quinn, had two sons. John died when he fell overboard from the ‘Duntroon’ at sea off South Australia.
